Studies for Lawrence: Number XXV Photograph

I was born in South England, 1982. I was raised in the countryside, away from the collision of the human populace, of whom I tend to shy away from still. Film and image has been my existence since I could hold a remote control, and painting and literature became a passion since I began my education. The book, the canvas and the photographic image have always had a cohesive bond that I have been unable to seperate, furthered by my exile into solitary life that allows me to climb further into my imagination and the loneliness of the British landscape.

I studied painting for nine years before adopting the camera and taking up a photography degree at Portsmouth University. Although I changed medium, my resources still continue to draw furiously from the canvas - with particular fondness for the Romantic painters of the 19th century and contemporary figures such as Francis Bacon, Piet Mondrian and Ken Currie. Inspiration evolves from an endless stream; politics, life, film, literature, music, mythology and old wives tales; and often my studies will come from a seed of one of these forms, moulding them like clay as I continue to shape what I have started. I never feel a project has been completed, it is merely in the starting stable vibrating with the shot of the gun.
