In remote villages of Upper Egypt, centuries-old equestrian sports are still preserved and practiced by the locals. Riders wear local costumes and adorn horses with traditional harness. These equestrian tournaments surpass any historical film that depict equestrian life before the invention of the machine. As enchanting as they are, the tournaments represent a great risk for the photographer, the rider and the audience. There is no designated arena for the riders or the audiences. We all share the same space and it is up to every one attending the tournament to watch out of his or her well being. Many times I've risked the chance of getting kicked, hit or trampled by a horse. Nevertheless, it is worth it.
