About The Artwork

ARTIST STATEMENT Carlo Rovelli states that indexicality is the characteristic of certain words which have a different meaning every time they are used, a meaning determined by where, how, when, and by whom they are being spoken. There are words like I, here, now… that have a variable meaning depending on the context they are used. Furthermore, a common sentence like “this car is fast” has a different meaning for me that for my son, who is an engineer. On the other hand, when I write “today is June the 11th” it´s true in the here and now but it will be false when you read these words. Semiotics teaches that the relation between signifier and meaning is not always straightforward. It even may be different for us. It´s said that when a dyslexic hears the word “house” they can see a house in their mind while all of us go from the sound to the concept and from there to the physical thing. Photography works with indexicality. In photographic art there is not a univocal relation between signifier (what is being photographed) and meaning (the photograph). We all know that there are not two identical portraits of the same model. Too many things are frozen, removed or included when we shoot a photograph. Hence intelligibility can be adjusted, and the artist is able to decide how many and what clues are to be given to the viewer for them to “read” what they are watching. In fact, as we don’t need art to understand each other (like common language) it´s pretty fair to play with understandability. These pictures were taken on a Golf Course while it was not a golf course. The strict Confinement in Spain had removed players, tees, flags… so it was no longer a golf course nor could it be used for that purpose. When I looked at its fairways and greens, I saw a human work, drawing light green shapes cutting into the forest or by the cliffs. So, its meaning changed from a sport facility to a human intervention in the wilderness: a Land Art work. Of course this Land Art Work and the photographs I´m showing are a metaphor of loneliness, fear and the psychological damage we were suffering by confinement. Following this two way metaphor and playing with understandability, every one of the 18 fairways were shot with the camera level, at the same height in the middle of the tee marks, with the same lens (similar to human field of view) and aiming to the point where the player ball should fly, were there any one in the here and now. IMPRESION State of the art Chromalux dye sublimation printing on 1,4 m aluminium sheet which is later framed floating in a black wood box without any glass. This system is the best for resolution, colour accuracy and durability. Glossy finish, although It can be also ordered in semi-gloss finish. Bear in mind that total edition count is 6, being in printed Chromaluxe or paper prints. Alternatively, at a cheaper price to be shipped in a roll: Fine Art printing on Hahnemüle Smooth Cotton 300 gas. Canon ProPhoto 12 inks plotter with excellent resolution. Works are protected with Canson Wall Paper 80grs acid free and anti-fungus, special created for protection of Fine Art Prints.
