This is the first view that the Victorian Royal Marines had of the Barracks. It must have been terrifying, especially to the young ones and the ones who were put in there from the workhouses. The way it's all set out is to let them know they are always being watched! Great Victorian architecture.

Lori O'Neill Pembrokeshire is in her blood. Born and raised in the county, Lori's interest in our rich surroundings began with early trips to the coast when her father would go sea diving. Along with her mum and siblings she would spend hours on the beach waiting for him to surface during which time they would explore the rock pools, climb the cliffs and enjoy the tranquillity or just to sit and watch the waves, to see how quickly things could change, be it weather or the incomming tide. The animal life that lived on our shores, the jetsome and floatsome that just appeared. It was during this time we learnt to look at rock formations - thank you Uncle Rod, Geologist, who got us into looking Very closely at the different textures and anomalies in the ciffs and rocks. Many images have stayed with her ever since, as her dad always had a camera in his hand, he'd explain how different film speeds, filters and darkroom tecniques can affect a picture. Born in to a family of artists - as children we were always encouraged by Mum and Dad. Lynn a Fine Artist and Rocky an Illustrator, she felt her water colours were never up to their standard, her mum Maureen was a big fan of her photos and would constantly to tell her to pursue photography. She could see the way in which Lori sensed how light brought mood, atmosphere and feeling to her pictures, which was something very special. Hich hiking through Europe with a camera was the ultimate experience, by the time my daughter was born I owned a Praktica 35mm so as well as land and sea scapes I realised how great it was to do portraits. I have a son now, and with the support and encouragement of my husband I now exhibit and sell my work. Lori exhibits photographs with a diverse portfolio of work on display. Commissioned for the Bicentenary Celebrations in Pembroke Dock, Lori has also exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Machynlleth, Torch Theatre, Pembroke Dock Library through Scolton Manor, and recently won the Open Art Competition -Judges choice and the Peoples choice King Street Gallery -Artists Gallery, Carmarthen. In a more recent project Lori was one of the principle photograhers on set during the filming of Kevin Allen's production of Dylan Thomas' "Under Milkwood". Shot in Solva it showcased her range of skills and keen eye, often under demanding circumstances. Along with her landscape work, Lori is also available for portraits, photojournalism and community events.
