The City of London at Dusk - Limited Edition 1 of 100 Photograph

This is a panoramic photograph of London. It was created by digitally blending together many individual images taken with a powerful telephoto lens, creating a wide panoramic view of great detail, rich tones and very high resolution. I had gone to one of my favourite viewpoints high up on a tall apartment block that evening to try to capture the full moon rising. Alas the band of clouds on the horizon meant that this mission was not possible, but I did notice that there was a curious light in the evening sky, a sort of cool, pale blue, replacing the usual lifeless tones of London's polluted skies. This hue remained until the lights of the buildings began to be switched on, and I knew I had an interesting shot. Pointing my telephoto lens towards the tall skyscrapers of The City, including the baroque dome of St Paul's Cathedral, I captured this view just as the last, lingering rays of the setting sun behind me were glinting and reflecting off the gleaming glass and steel of the buildings, mingling with the sparkling lights of the myriads of offices. This perfect luminous balance of natural and artificial lights lasts for only a moment, but I was there in place ready to capture it. No moon visible, but the image has quickly become one of my favourite panoramas of London. This is a limited edition print available also in larger sizes.
