About The Artwork

Limited Edition Giclée Print. Paper: Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic, printed with 5cm white border. Signed on the front, signed Certificate of Authenticity is included. For printing we use pigmented inks and museum quality archival paper (giclée printing technique) - this means that the light resistance of the colors is more than 100 years, in accordance with Wilhelm Imaging Research. You will receive the print rolled in a tube, mounting and/or framing is required. "The Laocoons" is a black and white photograph that merges classical inspiration with contemporary humor. This imaginative piece portrays a nude couple engaged in a surreal battle with a garden hose that winds around them, reminiscent of the serpentine coils in the timeless Laocoön Group sculpture. The hose, like a snake, gracefully entwines around their bodies, creating a mesmerizing dance of water and limbs. In this monochromatic composition, the interplay of light and shadow accentuates the sensual curves of their figures and the glistening water, adding depth and drama to the scene. The garden's lush foliage serves as a natural and textured backdrop, providing a striking contrast to the smooth, intertwined forms of the couple. "The Laocoons" fuses classical inspiration with contemporary whimsy. It captures a universal human experience – the joy of spontaneous play and the strength that arises from confronting challenges together. In this photograph, the garden becomes a stage, the hose a living prop, and the couple the spirited protagonists in a charming and enchanting narrative that invites viewers to celebrate the exuberance of life and love. This paraphrase reimagines and reinterprets the classical Laocoön narrative in a contemporary and unconventional way. Instead of directly copying or replicating the original, it offers a creative and humorous twist on the theme, making it a paraphrased representation of the classical masterpiece.

Peter Zelei is a Hungarian visual artist who specializes in portrait, conceptual imagery, landscapes and also photo manipulations. From his use of colour and surreality, he creates a reality found only in his imagination, but with an emotion that is undeniably human. He explores the divide between darkness and light, unafraid to explore themes that others may find uncomfortable. His work evokes a connection from the viewer, a feeling of oneness of the human experience and a mystery that will leave you wondering how the story will unfold. He exposes the rawness, surreality, mysticism and yet also poetry of his surroundings. His photographs and photo manipulations are created within an immense subtleness and ease. They take the observer on a journey into the most intimate realms of the human experience. Tina Lorien (Gallerie Lorien)
