ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Archival photographic C-type print on Fuji Matt Paper 231 gsm. Limited edition of 12 with dimensions of 30 W x 20 H. From the series “Murder, My Sweet” - 2023 Inspired by 1940s film noir, the series "Murder, My Sweet" delves into themes of jealousy and insecurity. It features Diana as her own worst enemy, pitted against a more seductive, attractive, and confident version of herself. Jealousy is often linked to low self-esteem and can lead to harmful self-sabotage. The film noir of the 1940s reflected the disillusionment felt in the country, particularly by soldiers returning home and women losing their jobs at the end of the war. Similarly, this story deals with the fear of losing something precious. The staged photographs explore our self-limiting beliefs, insecurities, and the gap between our true selves and societal expectations. I question the limitations and pressures that society, domestic situations, or ourselves can impose on our identity and our life.

Elisa Miller is an award-winning French photographer based in London, UK, specializing in fine art and storytelling. Elisa tells visual stories using a vintage and colourful aesthetic to explore questions of identity, self-perception, and the representation of women. Her work delves into the impact of societal pressure on women and the images that lie beneath the surface, using light and elaborate settings to explore the female psyche through a cinematic lens. Originally from Paris, Elisa’s creative journey began with a paintbrush in hand during her teenage years. It was during her work at a videotape rental shop that her passion for cinema took root, shaping her artistic vision and infusing her style with a cinematic allure. Before finding her calling as a photographer, she ventured into the world of fashion, making waves as a model for retro brands and classic car magazines. However, it wasn’t until 2018 that this self-taught artist took the plunge into photography, embarking on a journey of exploration and self-discovery. She has received numerous prestigious awards, including "Photographer of the Year" at the Julia Margaret Cameron Awards in 2023, "Fine art photographer of the year" at PX3 Prix de la Photography Paris in 2022, "People Photographer of the Year" at the International Photography Awards in 2021, and was shortlisted at the British Photography Awards and Aesthetica Art Prize. Her work has been published widely in the press, including Lens Magazine, Aesthetica, All About Photo, Dodho and Life Framer, and shown at collective exhibitions in London, Paris, Milan, Budapest and Tokyo.
