Twenty: Whiskey - Chivas Regal 18 (from the AC11 series) - Limited Edition 2 of 5 Photograph

The Advent calendar 2011 is a free work about food. Personal stills and interpretations. Food portraits. A complete three course christmas dinner, originally posted digitally as a portfolio show case on my website, and later exhibited analogue in numerous shows. In contrast to the sharpness, brightness and colorfulness of the images as well as the speed and noise of daily life, I decided to exhibit them in a small format on strong high quality pearl paper to invite the viewer to take a closer look, get in contact with the image and discover its details. The photos are exhibited in old school Passepartouts and hand made wooden frames to transport some warmth into the winter chill. Day twenty portraits a Chivas Regal, aged 18 years. I tasted it a couple of weeks prior to the shoot at the Chivas Regal distillery in northern Scotland - and just fell in love with it. The colour is lovely, so is the way it moves in the glass. Very elegant. What stunned me is the smooth taste and smokey nose. The image is a two shot solution. I photographed the smoke and the whiskey separately in a fixed frame. The smoke symbolizes the strong flavors in the nose, the warm and smooth taste is represented by the backlit whiskey itself. The series consists of 21 food and drinks motives.
