Photography: Polaroid, Color, Wax, Wood, Paper on Wood, Paper.
A winter storm this year brought surfers galore to the the water. Surfing is one of the most beautiful sports, and I watched as the surfers carved the waves like a fine sculpture. In this series, I have moved away from the typical expected colors that one sees in a Polaroid and used this special colored film. This photo printed on a fine art paper and then glued it to a piece of birch. Then I begin the process of adding the encaustic wax which I do with a brush and then work with a palette knife until I get it to the point where I feel it is finished. The wax is polished by hand several times until it shines.
When finished I have framer use a fine maple frame and float it without glass. The beauty of encaustic wax is that you don't need to cover it with glass.
