ABOUT THE ARTWORK

UNEXPECTED INTERRUPTION OF THE TIME MACHINE. The unexpected interruption of the time machine is part of the SIMUILTANEITY project. The simultaneity in Martin Ecker's series of photographs opens up a space of divergent events in one picture. It means that many things have occurred at the same time, that two things have happened simultaneously without having anything to do with each other. A synchronicity is created, a correlation that is not linked by a causal relationship, events not based on action and reaction, i.e. cause and effect, but which are perceived as being connected and related to each other. As Jung put it: "Synchronicity is the simultaneity of a certain mental state with one or more external events which appear as analogous parallels to the momentary subjective state". Martin Ecker (*1963 in Frankfurt am Main Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Ecker began his artistic work as a musician at the age of 14, later adding performance and acting until he began to work with painting, photography and video art. Martin Ecker is a German photographer and painter who has devoted much of his work to deciphering the reaction of chance and intention. His fascination with experimenting with reactive processes is of great importance: the observation, the action and reaction, the staging. In addition, Ecker has developed unique methods, such as the use of living organisms in photography or oxidation processes in painting. Space, time and light are recurring themes. His works can be found in international collections, companies, private collectors and art lovers.
