Born in 1976 in Tehran, Iran, Sadaf Foroughi began her artistic career in 2003, when she started to create and produce short films, documentaries and video art pieces, which were screened and exhibited in prestigious national and international festivals and cultural centres around the world. In 2005, she was selected to participate in the Berlinale Talent Campus as a writer/ director, where she was named to be a part of the Why Democracy? short film projects co-produced by Steps International, ZDF/Arte and Goethe-Institut. Her acclaimed short documentary made for this project, Féminin, Masculin (2007), was well received internationally, and was commercially distributed in Europe. In 2014, the screenplay of Sadaf’s first feature film project was selected to be a part of the Screenwriters’ Pavilion during the Cannes International Film Festival. This project was also received by the Meeting on the Bridge section of the Istanbul International Film Festival in Turkey, as well as the Produit au Sud section of the Festival Des 3 Continents in France in 2015. In addition to her film career, Sadaf has been involved professionally in creating photographic based interdisciplinary arts, video installations and also performance art. She is the permanent member of the Iranian Short Film Society (ISFA) since 2005 and the permanent member of the Société Des Auteurs & Compositeurs Dramatiques (SCAM) since 2010.
