ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is a print hand pulled on a traditional etching press. The image was made with a manual photographic printing process called Polymer photogravure. This is print number 2, part of a limited and varied edition of 5 prints, each with differences resulting from the way the matrix is inked. Fernanda used different colours, sometimes black ink, sometimes purplish ink similar to burgundy, always best quality etching inks. The image, constructed from a photograph taken by the artist, belongs to a series on botanical gardens. In this case, it shows the outside of the greenhouse at Kew Gardens in London. Please pay attention to the size of the paper with the white margin. Image size: 6,89 inches x 4,53 inches x 0,04 inches (11,5cm x 17,5cm x 0,1cm) Paper size: 10,6 inches x 10,6 inches x 0,04 inches (27cm x 27cm x 0,1cm) Each print is numbered and signed by the artist. The work is shipped in a box with a Certificate of Authenticity. Please, feel free to ask.

María Fernanda Pallares is an Uruguayan artist who focuses her artistic practice on printmaking and approaches photography from a perspective in which manual work predominates. Fernanda pays special attention to the material supports and techniques that give us a more tactile and intimate experience with photographic images. Combining it with contemporary techniques, Fernanda takes advantage of a late 19th century procedure called Photogravure on copper plate. This is a printing technique so cumbersome that, despite being appreciated for its beauty and the character it gives to the surface, it is currently practiced by few studios in the world. This exceptional nature gives the results of this printing process an additional symbolic meaning. You can consult the site which is an excellent source to spread the qualities for which photogravure prints are so appreciated.
