I was on a boat on a Copenhagen canal with my iPhone and took a number of shots of this bent ladder and later that day merged three images to create Vague Form 1. This photograph was accepted and hung in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2019.

Nick Steidl took up photography as a young boy and was trained in his grandfather’s darkroom. He became Richard Branson’s photographic editor on Student magazine and was one of the top exhibits in the Queen Magazine/J & B fashion competition in 1968. After pursuing a different career he has now returned to photography and has had various commissions and exhibitions in London. After many attempts, he was accepted & hung in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2019 with a limited-edition abstract photograph entitled “Vague Form 1” taken in Copenhagen the year before.
