Print Description ———————————————————— "Waterline" There was this variation of color and symmetry above and below the waterline that captured my interest. The distorted orange line below the surface offered relief. The tieline and its shadow joined the two groups of stripes and carries us through the frame. The running lines and their implied movement is subtle. The muted hues are brighter in this lighting near the coastline. The docking cleat anchors without attachment. Brandon LeValley (1954) is a photographic artist based in the United States. In 1976 he graduated from Washington State University where he earned a degree that included Art studies. He has always had a passion for photography. That desire was fueled early in life when he was still shooting film and utilizing a darkroom to process images. Holding a final print offered a world of experience seeing how the light on a subject materialized. Years later, when he was given a digital camera, he realized it had revolutionized the processing. Today, he converts many images to black and white. He uses a SONY A7RV mirrorless camera because of its higher resolutions. He likes shooting botanicals due to their dramatic lines and shape. He’s also fascinated with rock formations and landscapes. He lives near Joshua Tree National Park and a lot of his work comes from his explorations. While his journey in photography has evolved, it’s often ignited by striking lighting. He’s also fascinated by the abstract and uses every tool to achieve that finished composition. A unique image comes about by a disciplined and oftentimes exhaustive approach. Knowing the payoff is so rewarding, that commitment to detail ultimately renders a more compelling work.
