Print edition of 30 Over the years, I have often found myself returning to photograph the same locations with a regularity that has given me a familiarity with the landscapes and allowed for a breakdown of the traditional landscape image. Each time I return to these landscapes, I am re-inspired by the effect of the seasons and the weather of the moment. Although I may find the image a familiar one, the effect of the elements always brings something new to the subject. By looking deeper into the landscape and appreciating the components that make up the overall view, gradually, the sharply detailed images transition to abstracted variations. I concentrate on the colour, forms and movement in the environment to emphasize the many layers that complete nature’s bigger picture. My goal as a photographer is not just about documenting the details but about capturing a sense of the subject’s place in nature. The result is a personal perspective of the visual and physical elements of nature. My aim is to use the photographic medium in as pure a form as possible simply to reflect both the complexity and serenity of botanical life. In my WINTER series, the remains of the previous season are scattered like shards around the landscape. Collected pieces are submerged in water in an attempt to restore their original shape and color. Skeletons reveal themselves and begin to resemble architectural drawings to give a sense of both resilience and delicacy.
