I took this photo at a diving spot and fishing village. Very bright day making the water green with a nice contrast against the cloudless sky. The scale was under a partial shade, giving it the contrast against the over-illuminated backdrop. While shooting, this image captured the essence of the place very well without showing the location: simple, rudimentary, beautiful. The image is 16x24 and printed in very high quality paper that captures the colors and the textures very well. It will be matted in high, exhibition quality matting and I will sign on the right side, along with the indication of a limited series and series number.

I started photography in the 80’s, learning from my father, an architect. I carried his heavy Nikon around, learned the technical principles and the fundamentals of perspectives and compositions. I returned to photography in the 2000’s, now as a practicing physician. At first, photography and art may seem contradictory or even a diversion from a demanding profession. That misses a great commonality between the two: medicine and photography are both arts informed by science and technology. A knowledgeable and competent physician can miss the greater picture of understanding the person behind the patient as easily as a photographer with in-depth understanding of techniques can miss the moment or the composition. In candor, mastering both arts are the quest of a whole life. All photographers seek to capture the essence of a location, of a subject, of a moment. Physicians chasing an elusive diagnosis look for what has not yet been noted, the combination of objective and subjective nuances that, alone, are meaningless but, as a whole, reveal the truth. When photographing I too seek the unseen, the overlooked moments that thousands walk past every day.
