An important period of my life, around the millennium ́s turn, was my experimental work with the medium black-and-white Polaroid.
I created phantastic „light beings“, which in the end became the primary material for the exhibition
„see me – feel me“.
With a special lighting technique, a Sinar large-format camera, Polaroid black-and-white film, a long exposure time, a painterly photographic picture-setting, I created a transcendent, spherical and mystical atmosphere in which the naked bodies are depicted alienated.
My pictures happens in a creative process, in the interaction between the artist and its model. The intimate eroticism of the persons is subordinated to the sensuous expression of the abstraction of the images and thus to a kind of spiritualized sensuality.
Illusions of impermanence, transparency, movement and underwater atmosphere are generated with only one moving light source and dramatic lighting. In this way, the persons themselves become luminous bodies, and act like angels and spirits in the infinite space.
Manfredo Weihs wants to achieve with his works above all an removal of taboos of exhibitionistic and voyeuristic sensations and thus an approximation to a natural feeling of the self-presentation.
