The DU TOIT PHOTOGRAVURE studio is owned and operated by Herman du Toit who was born and raised in Johannesburg South Africa. He first studied printmaking under the British printmaker Michael Taylor at the former University of Natal in South Africa in the 1970s. He has had a long and extensive career in fine arts starting as a lecturer (associate professor) in printmaking and art history at the former Natal Technikon, where he became head of the printmaking department. Later he served as director (dean) of the School of Fine Arts at the Durban University of Technology. On immigrating to the United States in 1993, Du Toit curated exhibitions and served as head of education and research for an extended period at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art. He has also had over 20 years of printmaking and graphic art experience.
