This is a depcition of a cowboy in Mexico. He is wearing sunglasses and a typical cowboy hat. A cowboy in Mexico is called 'Charro'. The history goes way back. The main cowboy era began after 1865 when huge, feral herds of cattle were rounded up in Texas. The cowboy profession was one of the most difficult, especially in the 19th century, and was associated with hard work and hardship. A cowboy was often in the saddle ten hours a day with few interruptions. All life in the open air took place on a cattle drive: people ate, slept and needs in the open air. Often you couldn't get out of your clothes for weeks, which also posed hygienic challenges. Still the Cowboy is celebrated as a popular icon in modern day culture. The print is made in collaboration with Humberto Valdez and the TIR Lab in México City. The frame is handmade and painted my a handyman and scultpurist of the theater house of Graz, Austria.
