ABOUT THE ARTWORK

SHIPPING AND RETURNS

This is piece is inspired by childhood memories, some real, some exaggerated. I make a doll, put her into a scenario then draw her. She is then transferred onto a piece of Lino which I cut and change as I go. It is inked up and printed on a press. The edition is small only 4.

After completing my MA at the Slade, I worked out of a studio in the East End of London for five years. Having exhibitions with some lecturing thrown in. Pretty carefree really. Then life happened, what can I say. Despite my plans I had another life to support. A PGCE beckoned and there began my teaching career, which lasted ten years. Followed by fourteen years as a Pilates Teacher. My work had always been figurative, after a fashion, so a reasonable fit. I use to think time was linear, things happen in a certain order. Then 2020 arrived. My Father died in January, he was 92 so that's OK, yes? In March I came down with Covid. One visit to A & E, eight weeks spent mainly in bed. Finally a diagnosis of Long Covid, which continues. On 3rd of June my reason for the PGCE left me bereft and broken. My Son Louis died suddenly during lockdown having been furloughed from his job. A Pulmonary Embolism caused by an undiagnosed DVT. The need to create was/is overwhelming. To return to the thing I love but through different eyes, hence the collection of work entitled 'A Covid Griel'. A selection of black and white Lino and Woodcuts made in my kitchen at home.
