Mary Glenn's artwork is inspired by two of her favorite artists - Miro and Chagall. Mary's love for Chagall is particularly evident in her etchings. Her bright and imaginative use of watercolors evoke a world of fantasy and flights of fancy. Using a palette of both vivid and pastel colors - she paints scenes inhabited by whimsical characters. Inanimate objects take on a life of their own and figures frolic in Mary's "wonderland". Taking a different direction with her watercolor landscapes, Mary has an more organic, free-flowing style. Her intent is to inspire a mood through color and brush stroke. Stronger, more intense colors are used to express vivid emotions, drawing the viewer into the painting. Jewelry - creating adornments - is another of Mary's passions. She has designed a series of pins as a homage to Miro, and another as an homage to Frankenthaler. Other pins are fashioned purely for fun, full of brilliant color and amusing subjects. They are intended, as Mary says, "to celebrate the soul as a free spirit, able to enjoy the lyricism of life." Besides these wonderful creations, her artwork has expanded into a collection of bracelets and necklaces comprised of hundreds of one-of-a-kind buttons and beads. Casual and elegant at the same time, they are special pieces that can be worn with almost anything. The result is wearable art from Mary's world of wonder. Today Mary is an artist creating fanciful, magical paintings and jewelry from her studio in Eugene, Oregon. She finds inspiration in the art world of the past and present, while clearly rooted in her own imagination.
