ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Unique print in one of K-Liee's most famous, and ever evolving, series, Chebu-Rasha. This is a print of her art, originally on porcelain slab, from her Chinese residency in the world renowned Taoxichuan Art Centre, in Jingdezhen, China, famous for the porcelain being made there for more than 1,000 years. In her "Cloud, Thundercloud, Chebu-Rasha" series, Svetlana K-Liée merges cultural symbols like the Japanese Torii gate with iconic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Cheburashka. These elements symbolize transitions from the material to the spiritual realm, childhood innocence, and ancient wisdom. Adorning Torii gates with big-eared heads, K-Liée creates a visual metaphor of merging worlds, where tangible reality meets the ethereal, inviting viewers to contemplate the threshold between the mundane and the divine. This fusion of contemporary iconography with ancient symbolism highlights the timelessness of certain motifs, offering glimpses into realms where the boundaries between reality and myth blur, prompting reflection on the human condition and our eternal quest for meaning and connection. Through her imaginative reinterpretations, K-Liée invites viewers to explore intersections of the tangible and the intangible, the familiar and the mysterious. Her artwork becomes not just a visual spectacle but a profound meditation on the nature of existence itself, inspiring contemplation on the universal human journey of seeking transcendence and connection with something greater than ourselves. Combination of giclée and silkscreen prints.
