About The Artwork

The artist produced this screenprint while she was artist in residence at Mullard Space Science Laboratory (part of University College London) in 2019, following the European Space Agency’s Euclid Mission. Launching in 2022, the mission space telescope aims to map the structure of dark matter as it evolved after the Big Bang. The residency was funded by Arts Council England. She says: ‘The conundrum of dark matter leaves us in staring at a tantalizing blind spot. How can an invisible thing with the inexorable pull of matter evade our eyes? The pattern of our universe is tied to this, perhaps impossible, question and ESA’s Euclid Mission aims to study the dark universe. This work uses a tiny portion of ESA’s Flagship Mock Galaxy Catalogue is a Swiss supercomputer generated data set showing the evolutionary structure of the universe. The central shape in the print was traced from a meteorite found in Sweden in 1906 thought to be billions of years old.’ Printed with generous white borders on 50% cotton Fabriano 5 paper, it is a signed limited variable edition of 12 with 9 remaining. The ink blend comprises a striking mix of three colours (light pink, pink, blue) and the second layer (pattern) is printed in black.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area (CA) I trained as a graphic designer before finding my way into sculpture via glass making. In 2005 I gained a BA in 3D Design in Glass from UCA Farnham, UK, and in 2018 graduated from UAL Central Saint Martins with an MA in Art and Science. A visual artist working in sculpture, installation and print, I have an interest in astronomy, physics and neuroscience. My practice investigates perception and queries the evolution of form through hidden forces such as gravity, energy and tension. Using a variety of materials, including glass, I record and express these phenomena, evoking direct sensory experiences that connect people to their environment.
