Since completing a degree in Illustration at Manchester school of Art, I have developed an Impressionistic style of painting that combines realism with loose and often abstract brushwork. Although currently focused on portraiture, I try to remain open to other subjects - such as landscapes and moths - in order to follow inspiration, wherever it may arise. Whichever subject I'm working on, I always aim to capture things that move, inspire or have importance to me, including Alan Partridge. Beethoven inscribed his Missa Solemnis with the words "written from the heart, may it go to the heart". This sentiment has always struck me as a perfect encapsulation of the role of art, to share a part of one's self, and is something that I would like to continue for as long as possible.
