ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Specimen used for this work is Monstera deliciosa. Monstera as it's more commonly known, is a tropical plant that's native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It's an evergreen climbing vine that can grow up to 20 feet in length, and its large. The specimen I collected from the hills of Munnar, Kerala. Exposure time of this piece is around four to five hours. My work is cyanotype-based. Cyanotype is an alternative photographic process developed in 1842. Cyanotypes were first introduced by the astronomer, scientist, and botanist John Herschel in 1842. He was an inventor, chemist, astronomer, botanist and photographer who made some of photography's most important technical contributions. The cyanotype is one of Herschel’s most influential contributions to photography, engineering, and architecture.

There is no doubt, that the mirage out there is amazing. What enchants us is the beauty of entertainments in abundance. Creatively made matter surrounds and pulls us to want to enjoy things that we cannot possess, but only contemplate. In the end everything stays in memories, that at some point will fade away -Rajeev Peethambaran
