The Brazilian fauna and flora are the source of inspiration for many of my engravings, as I feel we can connect with their symbolic strength in shamanic tradition and rituals. The jaguar partly hidden behind the grass conveys the idea of fear and courage. Both are intimately mixed as is are the gree...

Anita Ljung is a printmaker, painter and illustrator. After studying at the University Paris VII Vincennes, at CU Boulder and the university of Aix-en-Provence, she obtained a degree in Fine Arts. She worked in the production of advertising photos and then for the public relations of a press group. The need to return to creative work took over. She left for Brazil where she stayed for about ten years and began painting large formats on canvas, then in watercolor, inventing a graphic bestiary with bold colors. The energy, strength and vitality of Brazil, and the Scandinavian light and clarity of her childhood both feed her work, which is a permanent search for balance and precision, with great freedom in the use of color. Back in Paris, she trained in print making and joined the Lilas Typography and Print Studio. The unexpected results specific to the techniques of woodcut and etching suit her adventurous spirit, always in search of new discoveries. In this same spirit, she invests herself in participative workshops. Cookbooks illustrated with engravings, very large woodcut bestiaries printed with a steamroller, large scale compositions at the Quai Branly Museum, inspired by the collection of primitive arts : for a few days or throughout the year, each project is a shared artistic experience, where the public is the artist. The daily newspaper " Folha de São Paulo " commissions her with the illustration of a film and a cultural column. She illustrated the first book of the Brazilian chef, Charlô Whately, written by the culinary columnist Nina Horta. Ikea asked her to design cards and posters. The Amazon and indigenous peoples and the preservation of their territories are issues present in her work. She regularly exhibits in France and Brazil.
