The octopus - mysterious and otherworldly. I try to capture the essence of one small part of its character. It has so many behaviours, colours, shapes and habits. Here floating in the midst of open water it rests for a moment for us to admire. The original Gyotaku work has been sold. The original print was made by painting the actual octopus then taking an impression of it by laying the washi on its body and transferring the paint from the octopus to the paper. Here it is available in 16x20" reproduction on 100% archival rag paper using fine art quality Epson printer. Custom sizing is available on request.

Paula grew up in Vancouver, Canada, daughter of a Japanese father and Dutch mother. Informed by West Coast nature, organic forms, water, mountains, often wild landscapes and a parallel study of human machinations, Paula's work is commentary on human condition and conditioning in found environment. Pieces are created as physical experience; works hang, swing, drape, become object, or result is in traditional form. Her work is rooted in exploration, inquiry and curiosity and evolves from flat surface to three dimension or performance dependent on concept and context. Her installations are experiences and participatory.
