"Patagonia" is a woodcut on paper made in 2020 inspired by the polar landscapes of South America . Wood box frame without glass, 3.5 cm deep. This work is part of the Achikanain series inspired by the landscapes of Latinamerica which shelter 60% of the planet's biodiversity. “Patagonia is called the White Mother by her children” wrote the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral in her verses to that remote land that stares at the South Pole. The White Mother sees 47 great glaciers grow on her ice of the Austral Andes including Perito Moreno, the colossal frigid body that advances without stopping. South of Perito, at the end of the cold world of snow and steppes, the writer who brought the first Nobel Prize in literature to the Latinamerican continent was a school director. In Patagonia’s long night, she hid between the “eternal fog” amidst “the white plains of infinite horizon.”

I am a Colombian artist living in Barcelona. Through art I have been able to connect with the landscapes and culture of my ancestors. I re-imagine Latin American art through historical figures, legends, landscapes and symbology inspired by the iconography of pre-Hispanic goldsmith masters. I am inspired by the revival of historical memory, the wisdom of indigenous cosmovisions and nature. My work frequently transforms landscapes into relief engravings with metallic colors that represent the mineral richness of the earth. For the last four years I have been managing Casa Jaguar /@casajaguar.studio/, an art studio in Barcelona where I collaborate with other Colombian audiovisual artists with whom I share my interest in developing a visual language that integrates pre-Hispanic art with contemporary art.
