Information about the original: Mixed Media:Acrylics (paint, ink, assorted mediums, gels and pastes, resin fixative), graphite pencils, Sakura Pigma Ink, Computer Graphic Software, and various brushes and pens on acrylic gesso primed hardboard panel. Statement: Although this work involved an intense study, observation and drawing of my physical self, it was intended that I serve as a representative for the human race, meaning to transcend the notion of one particular individual, and embrace and explore the issues, feelings, attitudes, and challenges that we all face during life. Art is my conduit to gaining a sense of inner peace and useful purpose, but we all strive in our different ways to find what it is in life we need and face to accomplish this. The anxiety and depression I suffered from after my cardiac arrest in 2012 has been successfully controlled and reduced by confronting this illness through my work, and I have ruminated extensively in this piece over the time-old notions of happiness and despair, hope and hopelessness, joy and anger, good and evil.

My present work involves mixed media. I concentrate using acrylic paint, acrylic and other ink types, acrylic gouache, acrylic mediums (including gels and pastes), acrylic resin fixatives, a variety of brushes and pens, and graphite and colored pencils on acrylic gesso primed hardboard panels. Experiments with collage techniques with select pieces have been recently explored, and I plan to continue. My early work consisted of woodcuts and drawings, and painting in acrylic and oil. I have all but finalized earlier woodcut printmaking work that had been put on hold since the 1990’s and have begun new projects. As work in this medium is still a viable option, I look forward to this expansion in my overall art portfolio. Years ago I became enchanted with what computers could do as a tool to augment and enhance my varying processes, and this also led to photography aided by graphic software. With the explosion of information that became available on the internet, I have increased my knowledge of art history and artists throughout the world. I am greatly attracted to modern art, especially the work coming out of and exhibited in New York City and most recently in the Boston area.
