Powerful and impatient traces made in the paper later opened in zinc matrices, metal in which the action of the mordent is faster, and therefore the lines obtained are more irregular and close to the initial drawings. Red confers more strength to the composition.

Vera Almeida, b.1969 in Setúbal, Portugal. Graphic designer, artist and printmaker living and working in Lisbon. Nature inspires my work to explore shapes, dynamics, and meaning. Fascinated by the natural world, I focus on natural history illustration, drawing and painting. I use traditional media such as graphite, coloured pencils, pen-and-ink, watercolour, and acrylics. Currently, I am exploring the potentialities and challenges of printmaking, especially in intaglio processes (etching, aquatint and drypoint), to give voice to the creative potential of the medium.
