About The Artwork

2D Limited edition print of Rebecca Mason and Louise McNaught's latest collaboration 3D neon. (Please note, the original neon is already sold, this listing is for a fine art print using a professionally photographed image of the original sculpture). This is a piece capturing the key element of modern life - that of glitchy feedback loops and how they draw us in, keep us hooked and cause us to adapt our behaviour to try to beat the algorithm. It's about chasing likes, comments, feedback and validation, in a system deliberately set to vary that validation and manipulate us. The piece questions whether this manipulation is the most relevant art form today. It integrates a play on the blue light emitted through our screens. Background text by Rebecca Mason Original neon light hand blown and bent by Rebecca Mason (though please note, this listing is for a fine art print version - prints do not light up) Background image (robot and hummingbird) is an image of an original painting by Louise McNaught. Edition of just 20. Numbered on the front border. Archival quality giclee print on Hahnemuehle photo rag 308gsm paper Signed by both artists on the front. 71cm x 55cm including white border *Prints do not light up*

"Rebecca's work is an extraordinary mix of truth and beauty; she is able to engage her audience with brutal observations about life, love, money and culture with her simple, honest and often humorous interpretation of the modern world" (Laura Lea, curator) Rebecca Mason, often working under the pseudonym "Rococo Wonderland", is an artist using light to convey the darkness within human life, existence and emotion. This is often accompanied by a dry, self-deprecating sense of humour and candid confessions aimed at recognising and accepting our imperfections. Neon, with its seedy connotations and consumerist lure, is the brush she uses to create a gritty and simultaneously delicate world. Her inspiration is drawn from the exciting, chaotic playground of the city in which she lives. The living metropolis of London, with all its fears, questions and realisations emerge in her work via a duplicity of textual phrases and fragile luminosity. The aim is to encourage the viewer to engage, share her world and illuminations as well as identify a little of themselves and their own experiences in the work. The premise for each piece of work usually begins by referencing a feeling or event in her personal life, a micro moment in her existence which is then broadened to reflect the theme on a macro, collective, basis.
