About The Artwork

These etchings are hand pulled on the etching press in the artist's studio and signed in pencil beneath the image in a limited and numbered edition. Each work has unique qualities and they vary slightly because each one is pulled individually. The etching ink that is used is Charbonnel, a superior quality French intaglio ink. Printmaking paper Somerset is used to pull each print and they are of archival quality. I don't have a preconceived theory when naming my pictures. Rather, the connection between an abstract image and an abstract mathematical notion comes to my mind in the process of etching.

I am an artist and mathematician based in Saint Petersburg. I am a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. When drawing, I am interested in the way the shape fills the space and how the surfaces interact with each other, forming cross-contours in the plane of the picture. Inventing textures for the emerging conglomeration of geometric patterns I create my abstract landscapes. When the time comes to name the picture I choose, at random, an abstract mathematical term and two abstracts -- mathematics and art -- collide and give birth to a new reality. Working on mathematical problems I imagine the future picture. And very often I find the solution to a mathematical problem when drawing a picture. My favorite printmaking technique is etching and I am also working with a variety of mediums such as colored pencils, gouache, pastel, and acrylic. I like to experiment with computer graphics and digital photo manipulation. My artworks are in private collections in Russia, Europe and in the United States.
