This is an etching of the “Blue Mosque” in Istanbul, Turkey. It was made from sketches I made in 1964 while stationed near Istanbul. The print was made in 1975 while I was master printer for Appletree Etchers, Inc. atelier. It is 9 3/4 x 8 inches on Arches off white, acid free paper, printed in dark brown ink. It is signed as an “Artists Proof.” The plate was inked and wiped by hand, and printed on a hand driven press. The so called “Blue Mosque” (Sultan Ahmet Camii in Turkish) was built from 1609 to 1616, during the rule of Ahmed I. Sedefkar Mehmed Agha was the architect. The dome is 141 feet high.
