About The Artwork

Limited Edition Giclee paper print. Dimensions shown are image size, not inclusive of 2.5 inch white border. Proofed, signed and numbered by the artist, with certificate of authenticity. Canvas also available through artist. Late one afternoon in a tropical Indonesian lagoon, I was swimming near several moored fishing canoes. A large cloud formed in the distant sky. The dichotomy of the tied boat within the expansive freedom of the sea and sky evoked this finished image. It is the story of the duality that results from the act of emotionally tying ourselves to another in a partnership or marriage. Perhaps at times limiting, but ideally expansive and freeing in that it allows us – in the knowing that we are loved no matter what – to be more of our true and authentic selves. My wife in her wedding dress served as the figure model. Making this painting even more poignant for me.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
