About The Artwork

This is a Limited Edition Fine Art Print which is signed and numbered by the Artist. The Print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The original artwork was created in response to the worldwide Covid 19 Pandemic, and the strange world that we found ourselves in. It was exhibited succesfully in the USA and sold to a Private Collector on the opening night. The artwork has a melancholy, wistful quality about it, reflecting how I was feeling at the time - all out at sea and wondering what the future held. The artwork was created by integrating original imagery of a seascape oil painting with a Highland Cow - reminding me of my home in Britain, which I would not be seeing for some time. The original piece was printed using the historic Platinotype process, drawing heavily from romanticism with a beautiful, ethereal and painterly quality. I used the Platinotype is an iron process, which uses ferric oxalate in combination with the metal salts of platinum and palladium to create the image. Unlike in a silver print, where metallic silver lies in a gelatine emulsion that coats the paper, platinum and palladium lie on the paper surface. As a result, the image is absolutely matte, with a deposit of the metal used absorbed slightly into the paper. The original artwork has now been made available as a Limited Edition Fine Art Print on Hahnemühle William Turner Paper. The William Turner by Hahnemuhle is one of the most popular papers used in the Giclee printing industry. Texture wise this fits nicely between Fine Art Paper and Premium Giclee. The paper is a 310g natural white mould made natural line paper with 100% rag content making it highly archival. It has a slight coarse texture which gives photos and artwork an elegant look. The final image is a thing of beauty which reminds us every day to be grateful for the lives that we live, and the freedom to travel and see people and family members that we love.

British Atelier trained ‘NOA’ Artist Alyson is currently represented by Saul Hay Gallery in Manchester, England, and Artifact Gallery, New York, USA. Alyson studied Fine Art in Manchester, England, graduating with a First-Class Degree in Fine Art and a Master of Arts. Subsequently, Alyson went on to study at the ARC Atelier of Fine Art in Edinburgh Scotland, where she learned the time-honoured drawing and painting methods of the Masters. Alyson's creative practice fuses both art historical and contemporary art theory. Her passion for relearning techniques almost lost in time led to her involvement with historic handmade chemical photographic techniques, including the Platinum, Wet Plate Collodion and Daguerreotype processes – subsequently incorporating these antiquated processes into her creative vision to create atmospheric, contemporary artworks.
