My paintings echo the ever-changing nature of experience, forever looping, folding and repeating. They are busy moving but at the same time very still. I hope to share a meditative experience with the viewer, to open a window on the nature of experience. Experience of looking and of being. I am interested in the history of modern abstraction genre and the various strategies developed then. - Notions of excess versus restraint for instance or some of the post-modernist stance - There is inherent excess in working abstractly. As one doesn't confine to the limit of "depiction of the real" one can tap into reserves of un-channeled energy and indulge into a kind of super expressionism. I guess this has to do with notions of aesthetic, process and completeness. "Knowing when to stop." For me using strategies such as those of minimalism proves helpful. With minimalism working in series is use to empty form and discover a kind of neutral non-expressionist anti-form as with trance repetition of minimalist music or the routines of minimalist dance. Employing the sort of strategies that Deleuze analyses in his study of Beckett's épuisements.
