An atmospheric, abstract 'Monoprint' etching, evoking a swirly, mysterious winter's night. This artwork was created using a 'marbling' technique on a steel plate. The nature of printing of steel results in very 'granular' and deep, rich colour, almost like velvet (this is hard to appreciate from a photograph). To me, this print evokes the feeling of a forest, with a large tree, centrally placed. Each etching is individually inked on the plate. Each plate uses slightly different colours, therefore I have presented this as a series of 'Mono Prints', as no two are the same. Each print varies according to the application of the coloured inks. This etching was created using a steel plate, stop out varnish and acid. When the design has been completed and the plate 'etched' in acid, professional coloured etching inks are smeared onto the plate and selectively removed. The image is created by placing the inked plate onto the bed of an etching press, with a sheet of 'Somerset' heavy weight, white paper, on top. The press is then 'hand wound', pressing the plate and paper together, transferring the image onto the paper. The image is printed onto a larger white sheet, with edges showing, including signature, title and date (see additional photograph). Image/plate size 34.5 x 17cm Paper size 45 x 30cm This print will be sent to you carefully wrapped in tissue paper, in a sturdy cardboard tube. Please note: If a UK address, artwork will be sent Special Delivery.

Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions.
