Sound Responsive Light Sculpture. 125cm x 52cm Materials: Toughened glass, clear acrylic, electroluminescent pigment, polycarbonate colour filters, anodised aluminium tube, stainless steel rod, stainless steel, sound to light driver, sequence driver. 3-DELEQ stands for 3-Dimensional, ElectroLuminescent, EQualiser. It is a sound responsive light sculpture that uses electroluminescent technology. 3-DELEQ has been created so that any music or sound can be input; the sound is then split into 3 separate frequency ranges and individually represented by the 3 different coloured sets of rings. Bass frequencies are represented by the red rings, mid-range frequencies are represented by the yellow rings and treble frequencies are represented by the green rings. The higher the level of each of the individual frequency ranges that are sensed, the more rings that represent that frequency range are illuminated, starting from low levels at the bottom, to high levels at the top. 3-DELEQ creates an animated visual representation of the sounds that you are hearing, similar to a graphic equaliser display but in a three-dimensional cylindrical form. "I wanted to create an audio-visual experience that takes the enjoyment of music to a higher level, where you can see the sound as well as hear it.” (Jamie Barrett - Futuretro) There is also a sequence driver in 3-DELEQ, so that pre-set patterns can be programmed. This allows a visual display to be created that can be enjoyed without the need of any sound being input.

Futuretro [pronounced future-retro] is the alias of interactive light sculpture artist Jamie Barrett. It symbolises an equilibrium between the future and the past, creating harmony in the present moment. – Flowing in the now. Designed to aid relaxation, these sound responsive light sculptures enrich their environment and refresh the mind. The forms of the pieces are based on sacred geometry, tessellations and fractals found in nature that have been proven to have a calming effect. These interactive sculptures make beautiful focal points that induce tranquillity to enhance your surroundings and awaken your senses. Only the highest quality, sustainable materials are used to handcraft these unique, geometric sculptures and each piece incorporates interactive coloured lighting. The internal electronics have been created so these light sculptures can display a visual representation of the music they sense (via integrated precision microphones). The concealed LEDs that project light across the sculptures change colour and brightness in relation to the pitch and volume of the sound that is sensed, to provide a hypnotic, audio-visual immersive experience. Select the colours and sequences using an app or integrate these interactive sculptures into a smart control system and enable them to respond to their surroundings. The possibilities are limitless!
