About The Artwork
All pieces are part of a collection of 12 sculptures united by the same idea: the “Anthology of the Siren” Concept shows how lunch break at the end of shift “siren” signal can be a metaphysical suspension in time & place and a collective social goal. It reminds of the "Lunch Atop a Skyscraper" photo of the 1930's. Streamlined silhouettes of human beings are sitting on unfinished working sites: they are in a communal and joyful space where sharing can alleviate hardship. The Concept was created in 2017 for CAMST Italy, leading company in food preparation and service, for their renovated restaurants, with the purpose to celebrate the impressive figure of Gustavo Trombetti, the founder of the cooperative, and the values that he brought to the collaborative work in 1950's. Each sculpture is unique and interprets the distinguishing traits of the city (in Northern Italy) where it is installed: e.g., Bologna and Parma depict warm welcoming and nurishing aspects, as well as higher education and cultural features, due to the presence of Alma Mater and Opera theatre amongst the oldest and most renown. Ravenna shows its harbour as leading role withing trade and financial prosperity since the Roman Empire. This sculpture: Surrounded by marchland and accessible only by sea, Ravenna has a strategic location which made it outpost for the fleets of the Roman Empire, and crossroads of navigation and trade. The work depicts dock workers on a lunch break, sitting on a circular pier that encloses the sea.
