ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Above”, 2023. Glazed stoneware with glass. 17” diameter x 2.5” Part of a series of 4 wall mounted pieces titled “COMPASS” that explores my connection to the sky, the earth, the ocean and the forest. Created for a show at The Art Center, Corvallis, OR. This wall mounted piece is part of a new direction that alludes to the style of Renaissance sculptor Luca della Robbia. The piece mounts flush to the wall and the backside has a wide, integral ceramic ridge for mounting and a felt covering to protect walls.

Vicki Wilson began an apprenticeship to Retha Gambaro, noted bronze and stone sculptor, when she was 16 years old. She holds a BFA from PNCA and an MFA from PSU. She taught college art and design for 15 years before spending several years at ceramics residencies on the East Coast and then opening her own ceramics teaching studio on the Oregon Coast. After moving to Philomath, Vicki taught for LBCC and recently reopened her teaching studio in Corvallis.
