The figure appears as the most frequent theme in the sculpture of Mirella Gerosa, an artist who expresses the will of a deeper and deeper research in progress on the same subject. The first works created between the end of the 80s and 90s, particularly a series of bronzes which give evidence to most of the themes that will keep coming up in the artist’s future poetic and plastic forms. Figures appears in several different situation, the subject being for instance a lonely figure in different postures, an image conveying the beloved theme of motherhood, or a couple of passionate lovers warmly embraced. The bronzes of Mirella Gerosa express clearly their artistic development: in the first works some anatomical parts such as hands and feet are missing. They are proposed again in the latest bronzes, with uneven and unequal surfaces. Another main interest of Mirella Gerosa is the terracotta. She has such a particular touch, that her terracotta seems to have the warm and organic essence of wood. The lasts works express all the possibilities of the terracotta, often presented in its natural essence and sometimes brightened with different colours. The work of the artist included lots of drawings, which can be seen both like sketches for the sculpture or terracotta figurine and like new drawings. Newer is the artist’s interest for the creation of jewellery, the jewel being conceived as “a sculpture to dress”, and it is quite small because of its nature, although still reproducing the usual, beloved themes of the artist. So the work is really full of results: different technics spreading from the same visual coherence. Each creation carries the print of modern representation, each figure is transfigured. Each work of art of Gerosa is original and unique, being an expression of feelings and thoughts, “modern”, in one word.
