God created Adam in his image and then created Eve in his image. If clay was the raw material for the creation of Adam, then Adam (or more specifically, his rib) was the material used to create Eve. It’s perhaps the only case of a man “giving birth”, with God’s help. Eve is the flesh of Adam’s flesh, completely independent and separate from Adam. At the same time, the two are part of the same whole. Eve is not possible without Adam, much like the sound produced by a tuning fork is not possible without a tuning fork. Adam without Eve is devoid of purpose, like a tuning fork which produces no sound. My sculpture presents Adam and Even as one whole object. If I had to describe it one word, I would say it is an arch. The shape is that of an arch. The exterior silhouette is a stylized male torso, while the interior is a silhouette of a stylized female torso. Eve’s silhouette is translucent, as if crafted from air. In Adam’s physical body lives a soul – Eve. Obviously, in realistic terms, Adam would have his own soul and Eve would have her own physical body. My sculpture is simply a philosophical, poetic metaphor. It is my view of Adam and Eve as one complete whole. More importantly, it represents a view of the masculine and the feminine and their relation to each other, their coexistence and inseparability.
