Altar IV Sculpture

Almost a year ago I moved from Russia to Bali. My fascination with the tribal art of Indonesia and Polynesia led me to the idea of developing a new language through which a person can appeal to his inner nature and restore lost connections. The altar as a ritual device serves this purpose. I have combined the cultic traditions of the peoples of the world as well as symbols from the collective unconscious to make this language universal. The objects are made at the intersection of assemblage and sculpture techniques. The main material of the works are found objects collected in Bali during the rainy season. The title of the series of works "Ad bestias!" - is Latin for "To the beasts!", a catchphrase from ancient Rome that precedes an execution, when a person is thrown to the mercy of hungry predators. I use these words in a different sense, "Ad bestias!" in my interpretation is a direction.
