ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The figure's gesture, though it can be related to many religious traditions, is used in order to create a sense of longing and loss. Even the basic solitary presentation of the figure is more reminiscent of an icon than sculpture. The animal mask is another example of attempting to bring forward an emotional response from basic imagery. The animal archetypes I use come from personal connections or experiences, specifically growing up on a cattle farm.
