Lisa Swerling’s 'Glass Cathedrals' are a series of miniature worlds in boxes, created over the last 20 years in California, Cape Town and now London. Boy this kid is in so much trouble! Yet he will be forgiven everything... :) And perhaps we are just a little envious of his freedom, his spontaneity and creativity, his engagement in the moment. Who remembers that feeling, and longs to recapture it? And we can! With the help of these little reminders of what is possible. This artwork transports you to a sparkling parallel universe - one that reflects back the best of ourselves and the world we live in. Described as "little pockets of joy", Glass Cathedrals remind us that we are all the heroes of our own stories, and that finding delight in small moments is a superpower we can turn on in the blink of an eye. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Each Glass Cathedral is handmade by the artist, and individually titled, signed and dated. They come packed in a lovely bespoke kraft box. Display and Care Glass Cathedrals have a french cleat built into the top back of the frame. They hang on a nail or French cleat (provided) on the wall, or can sit on a shelf. They should be displayed away from direct sunlight and avoid humid conditions eg. bathrooms. Glass can be taken out and cleaned with normal glass cleaner. Media The miniature scenes are housed in white-painted wooden boxes, fronted by glass. The model-railway figurines are painted, and at times augmented with clay, paper, and other ephemera such as specks of glitter and tiny sequins. The interiors are often layered with glitter. Because each order is handmade, they may vary slightly from photos.
