About The Artwork

I was given a 200 year old elm tree trunk which grew in the Sussex countryside in England and died of old age. I managed to find 12 good sections of wood from which I carved 12 heads, each one different. THis head is number 2 in the series. One side of the wood is carved and the other side shows the original tree surface. It is the spirit of the tree emerging.

Born in Manchester England. Secondary education at a Polish Boarding School in Paris, France. Currently live in Brighton, UK. Work in public and private collections including Art Council of GB. I make sculpture, with wood being the dominant material. It is carved and constructed. I use colour a lot in my sculptures. I am now producing a series of paintings on canvas and wood. I was a contemporary of Anthony Gormley at the Slade School of Art in the 1970's in London. I have been using colour in my artwork for 40 years, ever since my days at the Slade where the professors would talk about me as the "best painter in the sculpture department".
