The ANIPEOPLE project starts with the necessity of MariaGiovanna Versace to condense the passions that unleash the concept of motherhood, experienced with the birth of her three daughters. In this work, the artist questions how motherhood transform all aspects of her existence, challenging many of the values acquired until the moment of conceiving her first daughter. Versace's work reflects her need to integrate the role that defines her as a woman day by day, while at the same time acquiring the strong commitment to become the guide to her daughters. The artist exposes her moods without hesitation and with the clear intention of showing the “woman-mother" duality: the care towards human being, the illumination and the destruction of the “I” versus the "other". The artworks of ANIPEOPLE are the means to express her most innate and sincere emotions. In them, the artist represents herself through self-portraits, which she conceives as anthropomorphic figures, ANI represents the body of an ANImal symbolising the physical and emotional state that she’s been experiencing throughout maternity and PEOPLE, represented by her own face, expresses love and life in a continuously evolving emotion identified though a different animal. The scenes that are represented are based on the exploration of the relationships between mother and daughters and the role played by a role modelling woman. The double face of motherhood, is transmitted by melting the adult figure with her creature. This motivation leads to the reflection of the strong imaginary connection that ties a mother to her children lifelong lasting and more. The figures come together, conveying the impossibility of separation, the love awakens, the tenderness faces fear and anguish, the invisibility of the world towards the efforts of a mother, responsibility, renunciation generates a unique one: ANIPEOPLE.
