About The Artwork

Made from mesh, wire, repurposed aluminum, paper, acrylic and enamel paints. THE ARTISANAL SERIES The series is inspired by Nature, abstracting the forms enough so that no one identity can be claimed. Upon close inspection one can find the text and bar codes sneaking out from under the paint revealing their consumer origins. The Artisanal series investigates the commercial trend of proclaiming something artistic or crafted as a selling point in other products than Art as a way to distinguish them and justify a higher commercial value. In this particular piece, I was exploring a new color palette, one that I didn’t return to until a few years later, occasionally a piece is before it’s time.

I was born and raised in the foothills of California, the daughter of a highschool teacher and nurse. My career started early due to this small town environment, painting murals for local businesses at the age of 14 and drawing portraits of peoples children. It wasn't until college where I was exposed to the history of art and fell in love with contemporary artists styles. I moved to New York City in 2002 and have built my career here as a full time artist, exhibiting heavily in the metropolitan region. My work has exhibited extensively in over a dozen solo exhibitions including such locations as the Blackbird Gallery in NYC, Dacia Gallery in NYC, Noyes Art Museum in Atlantic City, John Doe Gallery in Brooklyn, NY and Brown University in Providence, RI. I have won multiple awards for my work including most recently an FST StudioProject Fund Grant, Brooklyn Arts Fund Grant, SIP Fellowship at the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, Puffin Foundation Grant and Mayer Foundation Grant. My work has been featured in such publications as Hyperallergic, Art Spiel and Art Fuse and is in the collections of the Janent Turner Museum, Art Bank Collection in DC, Credit Suisse and multiple private collections. I currently live and work in Brooklyn, NY. I am a very active participant in the Art World, curating and creating the WoArt Blog, which features and highlights the work of exceptional contemporary female artists. I have curated exhibitions at such locations as the Hunterdon Museum, BioBAT Artspace, Pelham Art Center and City Without Walls gallery. When the pandemic began in April of 2020, I created the USPS Art Project, a collaborative mail art initiative for artists to stay connected while social distancing and supporting the US Postal Service. The project has produced over 1000 original artworks by hundreds of artists and turned into a traveling / thematic exhibition showing in five different states, featured on ABC News, ARTnet News, Visionary Projects and more.
