About The Artwork

This was inspired from a program I saw on Wright Whales. They feed cooperatively by swimming in a circle and slowly letting out air as they rise, forming a circular veil around a school of fish. As the whales near the surface, the frightened fish form a tight spinning "bait ball" as they're trapped between the whales below, the circular veil of bubbles around and the surface on top. It's at this moment when a whale that has been waiting under them all, swims up the center of the veil and swallows the whole school in one go. I assume they take turns. An amazing display of intelligence and of social cooperation. Not so good for the fish. Made from cut nails, pipe, washers and stone. The mount is through hole hydraulic cemented with a bit of JB Weld on the flange for that extra "Oomph!".
