About The Artwork

Inspired Inspired by the fact that over 65 percent of the U.S. population is overweight, and that the population at large has accepted a "bigger is beautiful" narrative for women, no such narrative seems to exist for men. Known simply as "Barbies Boyfriend." I wanted to create a more realistic image of what I see around me on a daily basis. Created out of approximately 3000 tiny blocks of reclaimed pine wood, assembled together 1 piece at a time, then sculpted and sanded to create a smooth figure. Once assembled, each individual block of wood is painted by hand and the entire piece is then clear coated for protection. For being such a big boy he is surprisingly light, weighing approximately 20 pounds. He hangs on the wall using 2 wall anchors, which are included.
